Rental Equipment

It is estimated that upwards of 22.5 million American’s interest to learn to ski or snowboard is peaked by watching Winter Olympic coverage (information is not available for other countries).

But where do the newly inspired begin? The Whistler Blackcomb Retail/Rental department makes it easy and affordable for people to get into the sport with gear specifically designed for beginners. In fact, 58 per cent of the rental fleet is dedicated for beginner skies and snowboarders.

Whistler Blackcomb has the largest and most current fleet of ski and snowboard rentals in North America. For the 2010 season, 4,800 pieces of equipment have been purchased for guests to rent while at Whistler Blackcomb.

No matter what skies or snowboards are rented, pre-ordering online will save guests 30 per cent. Click here for a full break down of the skies available for guests to rent.

Skies for Beginners

For beginners, Whistler Blackcomb offers rental skies designed for beginners. To the eye, you can’t tell the difference, but there is a more exaggerated shape to the ski that helps make turning easier which allows beginner and intermediate skiers to improve faster. When renting, simply let your rental technician know you’re starting out in the sport and they’ll help select the right beginner ski for you.

Snowboards for Beginners

Whistler Blackcomb offers Burton boards that are designed specifically for beginners. You can’t tell by looking at the board but they are shaped slightly differently to make turning a little easier. In addition, there is a very slight upwards angle on the edge of the board which helps decrease the number of times a beginner “catches an edge” (otherwise known as falling.)

Winter

Whistler Blackcomb Rentals aren’t just for beginners, the remaining rental fleet spans the different type of terrain intermediate and advanced skiers and riders are looking to explore. For skiers this includes carving skis (for groomers), all-mountains/freeride skis (slightly wider under foot), powder skis (wide under foot), and park skis (“twin tips” that allow for skiers to land backwards).

Brands include Rossignol, K2, Salomon, Atomic and Head and feature some of the best models on the market today.
