For the 2016.2017 season, Whistler Blackcomb plans to invest approximately $8.0 million to upgrade and expand the Garibaldi Lift Company restaurant, the ski and snowboard learning terrain and infrastructure on Whistler Mountain, summer hiking trails, and the Roundhouse Lodge restaurant on Whistler Mountain, including constructing a new glacier-view sightseeing deck.
Rendezvous lodge & christine’s on blackcomb
During the summer of 2015, in preparation for the winter 2015.2016 season, Whistler Blackcomb did a massive overhaul of the Rendezvous Lodge and Christine’s on Blackcomb Mountain. The building has a brand new look with increased seating capacity and more intuitive flow to complement the locally and ethically sourced menu options in both the food court and Christine’s.
CABINS ON THE WHISTLER VILLAGE GONDOLA
For the 2014.2015 season, Whistler Blackcomb invested $6 million to replace the existing Whistler Village Gondola cabins which have been transporting guests up the mountain since 1988. The new “Diamond” level cabins were selected to dramatically improve the experience for skiers, snowboarders, and sightseers with all eight passengers able to sit comfortably on bench seating. The new configuration improved capacity for the Whistler Village Gondola by approximately 12 per cent through greater loading efficiency.
RFID TECHNOLOGY ON WHISTLER AND BLACKCOMB MOUNTAINS
Whistler Blackcomb invested an additional $5.9 million during the 2014.2015 season in information technology initiatives, including a radio-frequency identification (“RFID”) system with lift access control gates added to most mountain lifts. The benefits of the RFID technology include reduced wait times at Whistler Blackcomb’s main access points and the minimization of unpaid lift access. RFID has also allowed for the implementation of WB+, an online social interactive platform for guests.
