2010 Winter Games
During the winter of 2009.2010, Whistler Blackcomb realized a five-decade-long dream of hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Olympics.
The ski area was, in fact, born for the Games. Inspired by a trip to the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics, Franz Wilhelmsen formed Garibaldi Lift Limited, which lead to the launch of Whistler Mountain in 1966. The rest, they say, is history.
In 2010, Whistler Blackcomb welcomed the world as the host venue for the Olympic and Paralympic Alpine Skiing events. Heroes were crowned, dreams were realized and national pride reigned supreme.
From the bright red mittens that encouraged everyone to wear their heart on their hands to the nightly concerts that rocked Whistler Village to the electric atmosphere both on mountain and off, the 2010 Winter Games will forever live on in the hearts and minds of Whistlerites. The Olympic memories are now woven into its fabric.
Post-Games, the Olympic legacy lives on. With worldwide awareness of Whistler Blackcomb leaping to new levels thanks to unprecedented media coverage, the year-round resort will continue to welcome the world for many years to come.
